ImageHow would you feel if someone infiltrated your blog?

What if, at the end of some very personal writing, there is an advert at the foot of your posts?

What might make this feel worse, is the fact that everyone can see this advert except one person – YOU!  So, you never really know whether the adverts are there or not.

I recently had notification from WordPress, saying that they will sometimes be applyingImage adverts on my blog.  I took little notice.

Within the last few days, I visited a blog where there was a small video advert at the foot of their post.  It took a few minutes before I realised this was the kind of advert I might expect on my blog.

So… I wonder… what can you see on my blog?  Is there an advert between the foot of this post and the comment section?   Does anyone know how to get round this?

    I never see any on blogs I follow on WordPress, or even blogs I visit. I have gone to other blogging places and there are ads — sometimes numerous ads — on their page. When I first started blogging I was obsessed with my stats and I kept getting referrals from an acne cream company — WTH? Then when I heard through the grapevine about ads appearing on everyone’s blog, I realized that must be an ad on mine. A close relative who gets my posts in the email said there were ads on my blog. I don’t know if they’re still there or not. I think the only way to get rid of them is to pay extra and get the “Premium” that WP promotes often.

    Nothing for me too. I think if you are logged into WordPress, you don’t usually see the ads. But if you are not a WordPress member or haven’t logged in, then you probably see them.

    I wonder about this too.

          I’ve never seen ads on your blogs. Maybe people outwith wordpress can see the ads you see in your preview. Perhaps wordpress bloggers are spared.

    Cat, I don’t see any on your post either, ‘yet’. Those who have an AD Block app may not see them either when they do start appearing. The only way I know that you can get around this is to upgrade with WordPress. I’ve been watching my posts carefully, because some ads may be disadvantageous to the message in my post.

    For example, a sexual abuse post might trigger an ad for Viagra, or something like that. That’s why I chose not to generate revenue by going with AdSense, even though I had a high traffic website for 7 years. We have no control over what ads show up. Not good.

      I just looked at your 2 blogs – no ads there either. My Comp/internet knowledge is basic. I notice you have a .com address. Do you know if I would lose my blog if I changed the address from wordpress to a .com?

        No, you wouldn’t lose your blog. I already had my domain name, and then paid $18.00 to transfer it to my pre-existing blog. If this is the route you decide to go, I will be happy to assist you should you have any questions. One more note, should you decide to go back to a wordpress.com addy during renewal time the following year, it won’t be a problem, either. Hope this helps.

    Have seen them on mine before logging in and they’re not the types of ads I support (ie; exploitative [in my view] images of young women in bikinis). It seemed to happen more in the first couple of weeks, but yes….’Now what you mean.
    More often than not, access my blog and those I follow on my mobile where the ads don’t show at all.
    As far as I know,and like others have said the only way round it is by paying for the upgrade.

      I have not ever seen my blog unless I’m logged in. Must try that. I haven’t seen ads on your blog. Someone suggested that perhaps people who are not logged into wordpress might see ads. It’s interesting to hear other people’s views//experience. Hope you’re doing okay.

    I have been given notice of this and seen one blog I follow affected. The only way I could see, which has already been said is to upgrade…have never seen ads on this blog..lol

    I don’t see ads here either. I got one of those notices at my blog last month. I also wrote a post asking if anyone saw ads. No one sees ads. But those are regular readers and WordPress said that my regular readers won’t see ads. It bothers me to not know what kind of ads are put on my blog. I don’t have the $ to pay the fee for keeping blogs off.

      Gel, if they are signed in, they won’t. I’m not sure if WP identifies your ISP before you sign in, but try signing out and refresh your browser. I will be doing this from time to time, myself, also checking on other search engines besides the one I use as a default. It’s quite possible that they are in the infancy stages of implementing ads on a larger scare. That may be why we are not seeing ads on all blogs yet. Also, I think it may have to do with how much traffic a blog gets. Those with little traffic may not have ads or very few.

      If that is true, then getting Freshly Pressed could be a curse,
      What a brilliant marketing $trategy. lol Ugh.

        I just tried signing out and looking for ads but I cannot see any. However, I do know another blogger who is not with WordPress who can see ads on my blog. Thanks for the links re freshly pressed…. We learn something new everyday!

    I am amazed that I am the only one who can plainly see the ad for a Wii U video game (Zelda) at the bottom of your post! You cannot see it unless you actually click on the post to view comments. I have seen these on several blogs that I read but had no idea that the authors cannot actually see them! I would hate that!

    I do not have a WordPress account (I use Blogger), so perhaps that is why I am the only one who can see it.

        No, it’s not off putting. I’m so used to seeing these that I just thought it was part of the scenery. The box is just slightly larger than your “I’m ignoring you” graphic. It’s nothing offensive.

    I don’t see any ads, but I got that same little bit of info about the ads from WP. What’s creepy is that it’s based -if I understand- on what the reader likes… but it’s on my blog. 😡 Which may give the impression that I like or approve of whatever is being advertised. Oh well… you have to pay to upgrade to a non-ad blog.

      *tittering* it is creepy. A Depression Forum I helped set up had similar ads that seemed to pick up on what people were saying… Very interesting ads!

      It is interesting that Rising Song said in her comment that she can see an advert on my blog for a video game called, “Zelda”….lol… Maybe it was all that talk about high heels and handbags!

    you see them if you’re not signed in. they have been doing this for years it is not new. informing users is new, probably because of the law suit against aol for doing essentially the same thing. for the most part the ads appear to be clean (no trackers or sticky bugs) which is more than can be said for almost everything else on the internet….

    I haven’t seen any of these, but then again I SELF HOST my wordspress blog … hope you figure it out.. there is nothing worse than having ads on your blog that could possibly have nothing to do with your blog .. UGH!
